After a long and fulfilled career, it was only late in life that I found the opportunity to devote myself to the subject with which I had been theoretically concerned for so long: painting. Initially I began gaining practical experience in painting classes, but I soon felt the need for independence and to find my own personal visual language.
I was at first interested in the rendering of various materials such as glass, wood, textiles, porcelain and metals. In my work I try to capture their diversity of colours, as well as the tactile experience. In this way I allow the beauty of everyday things to take centre stage, to free them of banality, to in a way elevate them in the painting. For this reason, the still life is my preferred subject.
As the colours and light of the Mediterranean have always exerted a great fascination on me, I was irresistibly drawn to the South of France, where, for the most part, I have lived and worked since 2004.
While here, I expanded my scope to include landscapes and portraits. But every now and again a tomato, a fig, or simply the folds in a white sheet inspire me to hold their image in a painting...
